Lots of cars have exploding deathbags made by Takata...but not the Land Cruiser. I guess they are made by a company called AutoLiv here in Utah. Neat.

Land Cruiser all the things!
(That’s a saying, right? I’ve decided that it is.)

Funfact: Takata translates as AutoDie in English, which is just CarThe in German.

Autoliv has flown under the radar, they work for several manufacturers. Add that to your list of reasons the LC is so expensive.

Yeah, I looked into a job with them a year or so ago...they are a big company but no one ever talks about them. I guess they are a little pricier too.

Can I please get your opinion on this?

The dealer is a former client of mine so the price will likely come down.

Looks pretty clean, and the miles are low...but...its right in the sweetspot for timing belt service, so factor that in if it hasn’t been done. Bummer that its loaded as the GPS/NAV system is kinda...lame...but otherwise it looks great.

Awesome! Thank you. What’s the typical fee on the timing belt service?
This is checking a lot of boxes for me. Can haul the kid, has good utility and reliability and retains value.

I can’t remember what mine are. Not sure about my Corolla but I replaced stalks in my Montero and found a German airbag company (Continental?) and in my BMW a Japanese company (not Takata)

As someone who owns a car with side folding 3rd row seats let me warn you: you’ll forget they’re there most of the time until you need something big (in my case, a futon in a box still) and you will cuss every inch of space they take up

Yeah I’d probably pull them out and put them in when I needed them.

Must be nice. I don’t think the ones in my Montero come out

Really? They usually have a release mechanism. Otherwise it’s just a couple of bolts...

Timing belt and water pump at a dealer is between 750 and 1400. You can usually get then to throw it in if it hasn’t been done or at least use it a bargaining leverage

Nice! Thank you again.

Good to hear! I was thinking about checking this out the other day.

If by Utah you mean Sweden or Mexico, yes. Autoliv and TRW are Takata’s competitors

it um, says Ogden Utah right on that picture there...and I’ve drive past the factory....
